Migrate from Sage to Zoho Books
Sage 50 is desktop-bound and Sage Business Cloud is expensive. Zoho Books gives you cloud accounting with full VAT/MTD compliance for UK businesses and UAE VAT support — at a lower cost.

// Why Migrate
Why businesses leave Sage
Sage 50 is desktop-first
Sage 50 is an installed application. Remote access requires Sage's hosting service or a VPN setup. Zoho Books is cloud-native — your team and accountant access it from any device.
Sage Business Cloud pricing
Sage Business Cloud Accounting Start is £12/month but the features are limited. The full-featured plans exceed £30/month per user. Zoho Books Professional covers more features for most UK SMBs at a competitive rate.
Limited third-party integrations
Sage's integration ecosystem is narrower than Zoho's. Connecting Sage to a CRM, e-commerce platform, or payments processor often requires a specialist.
No native CRM
Sage doesn't have a built-in CRM. Linking accounts receivable to sales activity requires a separate CRM tool. Zoho Books connects natively to Zoho CRM.

// Migration Process
How the migration works
Typical timeline: 1–2 weeks
01
Sage export
We export your chart of accounts, customer and supplier records, outstanding invoices and bills, and opening balances from Sage 50 or Sage Business Cloud. We capture VAT number data for all contacts.
02
Zoho Books setup
We configure your Zoho Books UK or UAE org: VAT scheme, chart of accounts, bank accounts, payment terms, and invoice templates — before importing any data.
03
Contacts and items import
Customer and supplier records are imported with their VAT/TRN numbers, addresses, and payment terms. Your product and service list is imported with correct VAT rates.
04
Outstanding documents and balances
Open invoices and purchase bills as of your migration date are imported. Opening account balances are entered to match your Sage trial balance.
05
Bank feed connection & handover
UK or UAE bank accounts are connected via bank feeds. A final trial balance check is run, and your accountant receives a Zoho Books handover session.

// FAQ
Common questions about Sage → Zoho Books
Does Zoho Books support the same VAT schemes as Sage?
Yes. Zoho Books UK supports standard VAT, reduced rate, zero rate, exempt, flat-rate scheme, and cash accounting. VAT codes used in Sage are mapped to Zoho Books equivalents during setup.
We use Sage 50 — can you still migrate us?
Yes. Sage 50 exports data in CSV format. We use these exports along with Sage 50's report output for the migration. The process is well-established.
What about Sage Payroll?
Sage Payroll data (salary history, employee records) should be kept in Sage or exported as a PDF archive. For ongoing payroll, we can set up Zoho Payroll UK as a replacement.
Can you help UAE businesses move from Sage?
Yes. We've migrated UAE businesses from Sage 50 to Zoho Books UAE. The UAE instance of Zoho Books supports AED, FTA-compliant VAT invoicing, and reverse charge for B2B imports.
How does the migration affect our upcoming VAT return?
We time the migration to avoid mid-VAT-period cutover. Typically we migrate at the start of a new VAT period. If that's not possible, we help you file the transition-period return from both systems.
